Une Valse de Deux Coeurs

A Duet for Two Pianos

Duet

Drama, Romance

Une Valse de deux Coeurs is french for "A Waltz of Two Hearts" and is written to be played on two pianos - a piano duet. Coeurs was composed with the intention that both pianos would be "indistinguishable" from each other evoking the imagery of lovers wrapped in an embrace while "dancing" together. However, there's more to the piece than just that visual. Throughout the work, the reoccurring theme is repeated and layered in many different variations as a way to signify the couple's entire journey together from the first time they meet through their eventual deaths - expressing numerous emotions in-between. At the start, it's slow and pensive - they first see each other across the room. Eventually the music builds and becomes exciting as they "romance" each other, then the piece ends much the way it started.
